WASHINGTON, DC (April 16, 2018) — McDermott+Consulting (McDermottPlus) is pleased to announce the arrival of Mara McDermott and Rachel Stauffer, who provide health industry clients with integrated policy, data analytics and lobbying services.
“Mara and Rachel bring extensive and complementary policy and advocacy experience that will benefit clients as they adapt to a rapidly changing policy and market environment,” said Eric Zimmerman, a co-founder and principal of McDermottPlus. Bolstering McDermottPlus’s significant policy and lobbying capabilities, Mara and Rachel bring deep Hill, agency and advocacy experience at both the federal and state levels across a breadth of health policy issues that include coordinated care, diabetes, medical research, drug and medical device development, data sharing and privacy, mental health and health IT.
Mara most recently managed the federal affairs team for America’s Physician Groups, formerly the California Association of Physician Groups (CAPG), a leading physician advocacy organization. In this senior role, she and her team designed and successfully implemented federal affairs strategies to advance policies promoting coordinated care, among other things. Her role included advocacy and education efforts with Members of Congress and their staffs, the administration and other health policy stakeholders.
Rachel most recently served as the director of policy and government relations for a leading provider of health IT solutions. Prior to that, she was the lead legislative liaison at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), where she was instrumental in providing research, analysis and feedback to congressional members and staff on the 21st Century Cures legislation implementation. Previously, Rachel served in several senior health legislative roles, including health policy director for Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-CO), one of the lead sponsors of the 21st Century Cures legislation.
Founded four years ago, McDermottPlus has expanded by adding notable former political and career executive branch officials, congressional staff and consultants. The McDermottPlus team now comprises 10 consultants with broad health-specific policy, lobbying and analytics experience.
