Earlier today, CMS has released the list of what hospitals charged for the most common inpatient procedures billed in 2012. This latest dataset builds upon the 2011 inpatient procedures data that was released last year and on the heels of the significant provider utilization data that became available in April 2014.
The Department of Health and Human Services announced the release of additional data and tools to bring greater transparency to trends and hospital utilization. The data and tools include:
- Annual update of the inpatient and outpatient data released by CMS in May 2013. The 2012 data, just released, supplements the 2011 data that was previously available. To access the data, click here.
- New and updated information on 17 chronic conditions among Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries.
- Tool that allows individuals to see Medicare fee-for-service per capita spending at the state and county levels and compare to national averages
- New tool that will help researchers and other stakeholders estimate the number of Medicare beneficiaries with certain demographic profiles or health conditions
