On December 30, 2015 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) released a request for information (RFI): Certification Frequency and Requirements for Reporting Quality Measures under the CMS Program with a 30-day comment period. CMS uses the RFI process to help inform the development of proposed regulations.
As part of its efforts to improve the submission process of quality data to CMS for their quality programs, including but not limited to the EHR Incentive Program, Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program, and the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS); CMS and ONC are requesting feedback on how often to require recertification of Health IT systems, the number of clinical quality measures to which a certified Health IT Module should be certified, and ways to improve testing of certified Health IT Module(s).
