Continued Talks of a COVID-19 Stimulus Package.
- DOES THE COVID-19 STIMULUS PACKAGE COME TOGETHER? Additional COVID-19 relief remains a key issue that is unsolved. Over the last few days, the White House has made it clear that they are looking to get a COVID-19 stimulus package across the finish line. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) knows the White House is very anxious to get a COVID-19 package done prior to the election and will use this as leverage for Democratic priorities to be included in the deal. As a result, if a deal were to come together at this point, it is highly likely that it would have a majority of House Democrats’ asks and be marked as a clear victory for Speaker Pelosi. Congressional Republicans have a more complicated calculation in voting for a COVID-19 stimulus package. They may not want to vote for a package that has a large majority of House Democrats’ priorities included and has a large price tag. However, they have to decide if they want to be on the wrong side of the President prior to the election on November 3. Throughout the week, we watch for signals on both sides to see if the deal is large or targeted to specific issues.
