Transforming U.S. healthcare delivery from a system that rewards fee-for-service, or volume-based care, to value-based care offers the promise of cost containment with improved or at least similar quality. Such promise has made value-based models popular policy options at both the state and federal level over the past several years.
In the lead up to the 2020 election, the U.S. shift towards paying for value in healthcare is expected to continue.
