Continued Discussion on Alternative Policy Options to MIPS Scheduled
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) posted its agenda for the November 2-3, 2017, public meeting in Washington, DC. MedPAC is scheduled to continue its discussion from the September 2017 meeting on potential alternatives to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). The complete meeting agenda is available here.
During the September 2017 MedPAC meeting, commissioners raised questions about MIPS and discussed an alternative to replace it with a voluntary value program that would require participation in an Advanced Alternative Payment Model or participation in a population-based measurement with a “sufficiently large entity” of clinicians in order to avoid a penalty.
On October 24, 2017, the Alliance of Specialty Medicine submitted a letter to MedPAC opposing the proposed policy. The Alliance represents more than 100,000 specialty physicians from 13 specialty and subspecialty societies.
